Surgery

Surgery for stomach cancer entails removal of a part or complete organ involved by tumor with removal of appropriate lymph nodes. This is known as distal/total gastrectomy with D2 Lymphadenectomy.

Minimally invasive (Key-hole surgery) - Robotic or laparoscopic surgery

Gastrectomy can be done by open or keyhole methods. In open surgery the incision is 10-12 centimeters long. In key-hole surgery the surgery is done with 5 small key holes either by robotic or laparoscopic methods. This offers immense benefits to patients by way of minimal scars, less blood loss, very less pain and rapid recovery with early discharge.

Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy.

Chemotherapy is given to all patients with locally advanced tumors. Immunotherapy or targeted therapy has shown very good results in suitable patients.
